"I’ve had the genuine pleasure of working with Tony Thorne on two of the books in the Points of View series. I’ve read all four and each one is as much, if not more, engaging than the last.
The Battle-Bots (POV4) is a worthy addition. Not only does this fast-paced adventure have us following the agents to destinations as diverse as Cuba and Morocco, but also the reader is treated to plenty of tense moments and unexpected turns wherever the agents happen to be!
One of the best aspects of this book is the real growth and changes we see in each of these familiar characters. It’s truly like we’re getting to know them long-term. It may be Horace who is still coming to terms with his new-found world, both interior and exterior, but each of the agents shows us new things about themselves.
I recommend all the POV books very highly. It isn’t often, these days that such a fresh read comes along." Review by Karen Folques, Canada, Pro-Editor.
"Points of View – The Weapons by Tony Thorne, MBE, is the second of 4 novels in the Points of View series, a work of science fiction paired with espionage action and adventure.
In Book One we learned that Horace Mayberry, blinded in his teens, was introduced to Professor Oscar Freeman, who provided the young man with top secret experimental eyes, as well as a chance to live out his dream as a secret agent. Lieutenant Mayberry and his partner and mentor Captain Aubrey Jackson, under the command of Colonel Barker, foiled the plot of the dastardly billionaire Rudolph Beckmann. All the while, Mayberry’s magnificent eyes began to develop new functions to aid the duo just in the nick of time. They also cause his dreams to become more vivid.
In this sequel we learn, along with Mayberry, that five secret beam weapons the good Professor has created were stolen from a secure location! Mayberry and Jackson, with the help of Sergeant Daniels, Corporal Jenkins, and Mayberry’s magnificent eyes must track the weapons all over Europe. They discover that the thieves are none other than the Grey Brigade terrorists being financed from Beckmann himself while still in prison, strong and intelligent terrorists hell-bent on killing the crew and using the weapons for mass destruction. Can Mayberry’s eyes develop new tools to aid the crew to help locate the dangerous weapons and keep everyone he knows and loves safe?
I thoroughly enjoyed the plot of the book. I found it to be exciting and certainly novel. I found myself turning the pages quicker and quicker as the larger plot unfolded, following along with every twist. I was right there with the crew during the helicopter flights thinking up new strategies to find the weapons. All in all, the story line is excellent and certainly thrilling. I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy futuristic technology and action packed top-secret military missions." OLBC reviewer, October 2018.
"Points of View – The Weapons by Tony Thorne MBE is book two in the series. The author includes a summary of the first book to get you caught up in case you have not read book one which I had not. Horace Mayberry is a young man from London who lost his eyesight. In Book 1 he gets bionic eyes and joins a secret military group. In Points of View Book 2, Horace is on a mission to find secret beam weapons that have been stolen. This mission takes them to Scotland, France and Austria. I was swept away by Horace’s adventures. His bionic eyes continue to develop and get him out of some sticky situations. Horace is very likable character who is still learning about his eyes, developing his skills as an agent and developing feelings for a young lady, Janet. He has a mentor Aubrey Jackson and a new member of their team Harry Jenkins. Great comradery between the characters. An action packed thrill ride from start to finish." 5 stars, OLBC Reviewer.
"The Weapons is the second book in the series, Points of View, by Tony Thorne MBE. The protagonist of the story is Horace Mayberry. Horace is a teenager who lost his eyesight in his early years. He later got a new set of artificial eyes, developed by Professor Oscar Freeman in his research laboratory. Due to the highly advanced nanotechnology that Oscar used to develop the eyes, they possessed more than the ability to see. They were a form of government financed weapon. Did this mean that the teenager was expected become a secret government agent? Would Horace perform his duties professionally? Would he be able to meet all the qualifications for an agent serving in a top-secret government agency?
Horace’s abilities were put to the test when a terrorist group broke into the professor’s laboratory and stole prototypes of a new weapon being worked on. The book revolves around the involvement of young Captain Horace Mayberry, in recovering the stolen weapons.
I loved several aspects of the book. The author did an amazing job with the choice of and development of characters. For instance, the protagonist of the story is a teenager who takes on huge tasks in a special unit of the government. This makes him a superhero, helping to take down a terrorist group with his bravery coupled with the use of his special eyes. Another likable character is Aubrey Jackson his mentor, working closely with Horace in all the dangerous missions.
During the recovery missions, the author makes the encounter with the terrorist group members very short. After Horace’s eyes did their magic, everything else seemed to be swept away quickly. However, the author managed to keep me glued to the pages by creating a suspenseful story. Therefore, I give the book 4 out of 4 stars. Readers who love Sci-Fi books will really enjoy reading this book." OLBC Reviewer-
