Hi, I'm new here

Hi,

Found a link and here I am. I still can't believe someone did not ask me for money yet!

I have been infected with the MustWrite Virus and so I write novels, children's stories, and have 'advanced' into graphic art for my books. Found out that I have a talent since childhood that lay dormant until recently.

I write because I feel connected to the world when I do so, in an ethereal sort of way. I write about characters I might have wished to be at some point, or characters I would love to meet, or something from deep inside that creates my characters and my stories around them.

In the 'real world' I find people simply don't appreciate me, or act like it. I soon find that if I tell them I have written a book, or am an author, some (quite a few) seem to find something 'wrong' with me. Well, there probably is something wrong with me, but I like me the way I am. I remember one person in a church group saying, "Why can't she be like the rest of us?" Whatever that meant. No, he had not published a book, migrated from 12,000 away, alone, had no opportunities as a child to excel in art or writing, except to be secretary to some rich MP. (I was that girl)

My life is rich with experiences and I have had loads of happiness and a truck load of nasties. Still, I remain positive and carry on as if I have a mission, a destiny to fulfill.

I love being an author, writer, or any version of this profession. I have met bullies, mad-men, avoided death a number of times (including murder), been lonely, been victimized, been totally loved!!

I feel passionate about integrity, abused people, tragedies (Oklahoma - where the wind comes sweeping down the plains). My heart breaks just watching the news. My soul prays often for many different people, events, news items, family, friends (spend a lot of time after hours on that project).

That's all about me for now.

  • It is 1:13 pm here, so I am bright and bubbly. It is sunny here today in Margate, Queensland, near the beach. So, maybe we are both near beautiful beaches.

I am working on several books at the same time, so it must be contageous. I am doing a crazy animated story for my grand children, called Planet Poo - inspired by grandson and as he told his teacher I made up such a story, I have to complete it. It is in verse, which was fun doing. I am totally enjoying the graphics on photoshop and am learning every day.. Also working on a biographical romance (volume 3), at the request of readers! I love doing that as I can get into feelings, dialogue, characters, love triangles. Yes! And it's funny too. My husband tried to read the first book but could not stop laughing so never got finished because his eyes filled up with tears. I will have to get it made into a movie so that he can see the ending (which is now moved forward by the 3rd book).

I am also republishing KKMT, my kid's (gang age) adventure stories. Publishing on various places is also time consuming, as you know. Keeping track of everything is almost impossible, but I keep trying my best. That's all we can do. The enjoyment I get, like you, is such a bubble, bursting all around me in joyful rainbows of exuberance. I love it all. Congrats on being brave enough to fire someone who does not love your creations as much as you do! Nobody can understand your work better than you. That is why I am now designing my own covers.

Have a great sleep, pleasant dreams and may your 12 hr shift go as quickly as reading a great novel. Looking forward to seeing your work in big bold print.

  • Currently I am working on three different projects. (Crazy, I know!)  Most times, it depends on what kind of a mood I'm in as to which one I work on.  Each story has a different feel with the characters.  One is playful, one sarcastic (having loads of fun with that one!) and the other is more serious.  The serious one is actually my first Contemporary romance.

I've written since I was in middle school and hope to make a living doing just that, but I'm also realistic in regards to just how hard it is to break out in the writing industry.  Either way, I'm having fun and it's an accomplishment and an utter thrill to see my work in print.  Holding in my hands for the first time was just surreal!

Right now, I'm awaiting the first round of edits for a novella releasing in July, and I also just sent a manuscript in to another publisher who requested it this afternoon.  SUPER EXCITED!!

I recently fired my agent--long story--and am now doing things on my own for the time being.

Not sure where you are from, but I'm in Florida.  It's approaching 10pm and I have to be up and at it at 5 for a 12hr shift, so I'll be hopping off of here for the night.

It's been great chatting with you!!  I'll be back off and on tomorrow for sure.

  • Hi Serena,

Thanks for beautiful comment! You seem like a great detective, and so alert to a new post!

Thanks for your encouragement. I have also been an actor (used to be called actress but they took the stress out of it!) on stage in Dublin, Ireland. I gained my Acting Certificate in 1969 (shows how old I am and why I have had loads of excitement in my life)  I also starred in plays in Dublin, including Teresa in The Hostage by Brendan Behan. I met his mother at one of the venues. I used to have a picture of that but I gave it to someone before I knew about photocopying.

I have also been a producer of stage plays in various places in Australia, including the Melba Players in Canberra, Australia's capital city, Maryborough Players in North Queensland, and other places. I use my experience as a producer/director to set the scenes in my books as well. It comes in handy. I will certainly post and link here, if you think that is acceptable.

So, what are you up to, Serena?

  • Holy cow, honey!  That's quite a life you've had.  I can only imagine how your experiences have enhanced your writing and the descriptions therein.  Good luck with everything, and be sure to post any links and cover art for your books so we can find them!  I know I want to check them out for sure.
