My last two books, The Wealth of Jamestown and The Wealth of Virginia, are novels closely based on actual events and people alive between 1685 and 1710. Very few people know anything about American history in this period, but if you want to understand where our politics and sense of country comes from, this is where to begin. Everything was there: annual elections, violent meetings of legislatures, fights with executives sent by a distant monarchy, and the development and accumulation of great wealth. I'm planning a third and last volume, The Wealth of Nations, that will feature Blackbeard as a main character.
