Glenn Langohr’s New Books- Roll Call & Lock Up Diaries, Expose the True Story of How the Son of a Sheriff and His Buddies Videoed the Gang Raping of an Underage Girl

New Books-”Roll Call” & “Lock Up Diaries,” Expose the True Story of How the Son of a Sheriff and His Buddies Videoed the Gang Raping of an Underage Girl.

In Glenn Langohr’s novel Roll Call, the Haidl rape case unravels in gruesome detail and exposes all the dirty little secrets. The case drew national attention in part because Haidl’s father was the assistant sheriff of Orange County, California. In Glenn Langohr’s, Lock Up Diaries, he takes the reader inside of California’s hardest core prison where prison vigilante justice on sex offenders is a matter of honor for many inmates who have been abused in childhood themselves.

Quote start“Those without sin cast the first stone” A district attorney receives video evidence of his son dealing drugs from a released Pelican Bay inmate.Quote end

Roll Call by Glenn Langohr takes the reader into the story behind the story of the Haidl rape case. In prison on drug charges during the writing of “Roll Call”, Glenn Langohr felt the rape victim’s pain and further embarrassment of being labeled, “a promiscuous girl who aspired to be a porn star”, by private investigators and attorneys intent to clear the son of the sheriff of rape charges.

“I was sick of the hypocrisy of our criminal justice system,” Glenn stated.

Though “Roll Call” is a drug war novel with the intent to bring compassion and smart on crime back to the Justice System, the thread with the Haidl rape case is one of many twist and turns of corruption uncovered for social justice in his books. $16.99 paperback or 2.99 with kindle on Amazon.

Kirkus Discoveries- “A Master Director of modern pulp thrillers and a harrowing down-and-dirty depiction of the War on Drugs, sometimes reminiscent of Solderburgh’s Traffic, by former dealer, California artist Langohr.”

Also by Glenn Langohr- “Lock Up Diaries- A California Pelican Bay Prison Story Series

A depiction of life inside of prison and a look at the political landscape between races, segregated by cell after being released from the Pelican Bay SHU in California. The amazing details of prison life – code words that prisoners use, explanations of how they communicate from cell to cell – really make you feel you have entered a different world, or like you are watching a movie. 2.99 with kindle, 7.99 in print and 6.97 in audio book on Amazon and other outlets.

“A raw, breathless descent through the inner circle of the California Penal Hell. Fraught with detail that only someone who’s been there could know.” Review by Phillip Doran, author of A Reluctant Tuscan

After a decade in prison on drug charges, Glenn Langohr’s vision is to help other drug addicted and lost prisoners find their voice through writing and art. He uses prison art for some of his book covers and started a publishing company, lockdownpublishing.com to open a new avenue for prison authors. Past radio interviews include KSBR 88.5 in Orange County and Buy Back America in Utah

 “Robert Sheppard's Novel Spiritus Mundi confronts politics and philosophies of the world. He's examined multiple layers of personality in his characters; male, female, Chinese, Arab, English, and American melding them into a story of possible outcomes. How else can I convey the intelligent presentation of fiction woven with sensitivity to our world's governments, religious influences and sectarian principles? We must not forget the influence of a largely secular world. Robert tirelessly checked, rechecked and triple checked his resources in order to bring a fiction of occurrence, and psychological impact as set forth in his novel Spiritus Mundi.”November 18, 2012

I write to introduce to your attention my double novel Spiritus Mundi, consisting of Spiritus Mundi, the Novel—Book I, and Spiritus Mundi, the Romance—Book II. Book I’s espionage-terror-political-religious thriller-action criss-crosses the globe from Beijing to London to Washington, Mexico City and Jerusalem presenting a vast panorama of the contemporary international world, including compelling action, deep and realistic characters and surreal adventures, while Book II dialates the setting and scope into a fantasy (though still rooted in the real) adventure where the protagonists embark on a quest to the realms of Middle Earth and its Crystal Bead Game and through a wormhole to the Council of the Immortals in the Amphitheater in the center of the Milky Way Galaxy in search of the crucial Silmaril Crystal, and to plead for the continuance of the human race in the face of threatened extinction from a nuclear World War III, all followed by a triple-somersault thriller ending in which a common garden-variety terrorist attack is first uncovered by MI6 and the CIA as the opening gambit a Greatpower Game of States threatening World War III and then, incredibly, as the nexus of a Time Travel conspiracy involving an attempt by fascist forces of the 23rd Century to alter a benign World History by a time-travelling raid on their past and our present to provoke that World War III, foiled by the heroic efforts of the democratic 23rd Century world government, the Senate of the United States of Earth, to hunt down the fascist interlopers before their history is irrevocably altered for evil.

When activist Robert Sartorius, leading a global campaign to create a European Parliament-style world-wide United Nations Parliamentary Assembly presses the proposal in New York on his old friend the UN Secretary-General and is rebuffed due to the hostile pressure of the conservative American administration, his Committee resolves to fight back by launching a celebrity-driven Bono-Geldof-Band Aid/Live 8-style “People Power” media campaign and telethon spearheaded by rock superstars Isis and Osiris and former UN Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali to mobilize global public support and pressure in alliance with the Occupy Wall Street Movements worldwide. The Blogs of Sartorius, activist Eva Strong and Committee Chairman Andreas Sarkozy reveal the campaign’s working struggle, their tangled love affairs, a loss of faith, attempted suicide, reconciliation of father and son after divorce, and recovery of personal love and faith.

Things fall apart as the idealists’ global crusade is infiltrated by a cell of jihadist terrorists using it as a cover, then counter-infiltrated by CIA agent Jack McKinsey and British MI6 agent Etienne Dearlove. A cat-and-mouse game of espionage and intrigue ensues pitting them against the Chinese MSS espionage network allied with the Iranian Quds Force crossing Beijing, London, Moscow, Washington and Jerusalem unleashing an uncontrollable series of events which sees the American Olympic Track and Field Team bombed on an airplane in London, uncovers a secret conspiracy of China, Russia and Iran to jointly seize the oil reserves of the Middle-East, and witnesses Presidents Clinton and Carter taken hostage with Sartorius, McKinsey, Eva and other activists at a Jerusalem telethon rally cut short by the explosion of a concealed atomic device in a loaned Chinese Terracotta Warrior, then flown by capturing terrorists to Qom, Iran as “human shields” to deter a retaliatory nuclear attack.

In Book II, Spiritus Mundi, the Romance they encounter Iran’s Supreme Leader in Qom as the world teeters on the brink of nuclear confrontation and World War III, while mysterious events unfold leading Sartorius and McKinsey from their captivity in the underground nuclear facilities of Qom into a hidden neo-mythic dimension that takes them to a vast ocean and land at the center of the world, Middle Earth, Inner Shambhala, and to involvement in a mysterious Castalian “Crystal Bead Game” linked to the destiny of the human race on earth. They then embark on a quest for the Silmaril, or Missing Seed Crystal to the central island of Omphalos in the Great Central Sea in the middle of the globe, aided by Goethe, the Chinese Monkey King, Captain Nemo, the African God-Hero Ogun, and a Sufi mystic they traverse a ‘wormhole’ at the center of the earth guarded by ‘The Mothers’ and the fallen angel tribe of the Grigori (Genesis 6:1-4) which leads the way to critical meeting of the “Council of the Immortals” at the Black Hole in the center of the Milky Way Galaxy to determine the final fate of the human species. The heroes battle and overcome the treacherous opposition of Mephisto and his satanic subaltern Mundus through their Underworld and Otherworld adventures and successfully plead the cause of the continuation of the human species before the Immortals, returning with the critical Silmaril Crystal, resolving the Crystal Bead Game and thereby inspiring through the Archangel Gabriel a dream in the mind of Iran’s Supreme Leader which brings a new Revelation causing him to release the hostages and an end the crisis. China and Russia stand down from aiding Iran in seizing the Mid-East oil reserves, but in a treacherous blow the Chinese instead utilize their forward-positioned armies to attack their former ally Russia and seize Siberia with its large oil and gas reserves instead. President Barret Osama, America’s newly-elected first black President then invites Russia, Japan and South Korea to join NATO and together they succeed in expelling the Chinese from Siberia and usher in a new Eurasian and global balance of power and a New World Order.

Rock Superstar Osiris meanwhile, after undertaking a narcissistic Messianic mission in the wake of the Jerusalem atomic blast is dramatically assassinated on live world-wide television on Jerusalem’s Via Dolorosa by a disillusioned follower. His wife and rock-star partner Isis then leads a spiritual movement to reconcile and unite the clashing religions and catalyze a common global spiritual Renaissance through a Global Progressive Spiritual Alliance which seeks to construct an Inter-faith Temple on the ruins of the atomic blast in Jerusalem. In counter-reaction to the cataclysmic events the world finally implements Sartorius’ crusade for a United Nations Parliamentary Assembly, but not before Sartorius has himself has died, Moses-like of a heart attack while helping to foil a metaconspiracy mediated by Time Travel in which a fascist agent from the 23rd Century who has time-transited back to our time to alter a benign history by causing WWIII and thus preventing the evolution of a democratic world government, the United States of Earth, which follows him through time and nabs him just in the “nick of time” to prevent Aramgeddon. The book ends with the opening ceremony of the UN Parliamentary Assembly which is attended in Sartorius’ name by his widow Eva Strong, whom Sartorius had fallen in love with and married in the course of the novel, and by their son Euphy, newborn after Sartorius’ death. They are joined in cinematic climax at the ceremony by newly chosen UN Secretary-General Clinton, President Osama and UN Parliamentary Assembly Committee Chairman Andreas Sarkozy who have just received the Nobel Peace Prize for their work in creation of the world’s first world parliamentary assembly within the United Nations, bringing together the representative voices of the peoples of the world in face-to-face assembly and dialogue for the first time in world history.

Highlights:

All the Highlights of the novel cannot be contained in such a short Introduction, but a few of them would include:

1. Spiritus Mundi is the first novel in world history to portray the creation of a United Nations Parliamentary Assemblyon the working model, inter alia, of the European Parliament and the first novel to portray the Occupy Wall Street Movement and related movements worldwide;

2. Spiritus Mundi is a prophetic geo-political WWIII novel of the near future forseeing a conflict and conspiratorial surprise attack by a resurgent “Axis” of China, Russia and Iran seeking by a decisive blow in jointly seizing the Middle-East oil fields to radically alter the global balance of power vis-a-vis the West in the world and Eurasia. Like Clancy’s The Bear and the Dragon, it forsees the inclusion of Russia in NATO, and goes far beyond in forseeing the inclusion of South Korea and Japan, following a joint Chinese-Russian occupation of a collapsing North Korea and the Axis strike at the Middle-Eastern oil fields;

3. Spiritus Mundi is an exciting espionage thriller involving the American CIA. British MI6, the Chinese MSS, or Ministry of State Security and the Russian SVR contending in a deul of intrigue and espionage;

4. Spiritus Mundi is a Spellbinding Terrorism/Counterterrorism novel involving a global plot to conceal an atomic bomb in a Chinese Teracotta Warrior to be detonated in Jerusalem;

5. Features the romantic and sexual searching and encounters of dozens of idealist activists, rock-stars, CIA and MI6 agents, public-relations spinmeisters and billionaires with a detour into the bi-sexual and gay scenes of Beijing, New York, California, London and Tokyo:

6. Establishes and grounds the new genre of the Global Novel written in Global English, the international language of the world,

7. Spiritus Mundi is a novel of Spiritual Searching featuring the religious searching of Sufi mystic Mohammad ala Rushdie, as well as the loss of faith, depression, attempted suicide and recovery of faith in life of protagonist Sartorius. Follows bogus religious cult leaders and the Messiah-Complex megalomanic-narcissistic mission of rock superstar Osiris that leads to his dramatic assassination on worldwide television in Jerusalem, followed by the religious conversion of his wife and rock-star parner Isis;

8. Features the search for love and sexual fulfillment of Eva Strong, a deeply and realistically portrayed divorced single mother involved in the United Nations campaign, who reveals her tortured heart and soul in her Blog throughout several disastrous sexual affairs and ultimately through her final attainment of love and marriage to Sartorius;

9. Features Sartorius’ experience of a bitter divorce, alienation and reconciliation with his son, his loss of faith and attempted suicide, his battle against drugs and alcoholism, his surreal and sexual adventures in Mexico City, and his subsequent redeeming love and marriage to Eva Strong;

10. Contains the in–depth literary conversations of Sartorius and his best friend, Literature Nobel Laureate Günther Gross, as they conduct worldwide interviews and research for at book they are jointly writing on the emergence of the new institution of World Literature, building on Goethe’s original concept of “Weltliteratur” and its foundations and contributions from all the world’s traditions and cultures;

11. Predicts the emergence of the institution and quest of “The Great Global Novel” as a successor to the prior quest after “The Great American Novel” in the newer age of the globalization of literature in Global English and generally;

12. Features the cross-cultural experiences and search for roots, sexual and spiritual fulfillment and authenticity of Asian-American character Jennie Zheng, and Pari Kasiwar of India;

13. For the first time incorporates in the dramatic narrative flow of action the mythic traditions of all the cultures and literatures of the world, including such figures as Goethe, The Chinese Monkey King, the African God-Hero Ogun, surreal adventures in the ‘Theatro Magico’ in Mexico City bringing to life figures from the Mayan-Aztec Popul Vuh, Hanuman from the Indian classic the Ramayana, and many more;

14. Book Two, Spiritus Mundi, the Romance is a fantastic Fantasy, Myth and Magical Realism Rollercoaster Ride: The more mythic Book Two utilizes a Wellsian motif of Time Travel to explore the making of history and its attempted unmaking (a la Terminator) by a hositile raid from the future on the past, our present, and the foiling of the fascist attempt by an alliance of men and women of goodwill and courage from past, present and future generations united in a Commonwealth of Human Destiny; Like Thomas Pynchon’s Against the Day and Welles’ Journey to the Center of the Earth it involves a journey to an interior realm of the “Middle Earth;” it also contains a futuristic travel through a wormhole to the center of our Milky Way Galaxy for a meeting with the “Council of the Immortals” where the fate of the human race will be decided;

15. Is a fantastic read on a roller-coaster ride of high adventure and self-exploration!

MY LIFE MY THOUGHTS AND MY STRENGTH

By Ronn Mason

I have walked through life. I have seen and experienced hurt, pain and ridicule. I have loved and lost, and have been brought down to my very knees by those I would have least expected it from.

I have been undermined, second guessed, accused and blamed, for things I never did, a hero today, forgotten tomorrow.

 I have been lonely, alone, and have been an outcast by friends and others. I have even stared death in the face, but I defeated it with all my strength.

And now through all of these struggles, my scars, the bruises and pain, I survived.  And although I have been humbled, I have discovered that I possess a strength that I never thought or knew existed inside of me.

I am me, and will never give in to anything or anyone who tries to hurt or destroy me, because my faith in myself and life is now unshakable.

“Your comeback may be so slow that even your biggest fans are starting to lose hope. Don’t you lose hope. Right when others have written you off is exactly when God will step in & causes you to flourish. Folks are about to see you to rise! God is intending a whole lot of good in your direction! Your latter will be much greater than your former & even your now! God already has your rise written in the script! The book can’t be closed & the story can’t be fully told until God brings you from the background to the forefront! Your come-up is “Heaven-Sealed”! God has His stamp on you!”

When writing the story of your life, don’t let anyone else hold the pen. Every Person that was from your past had lives as a shadow in your mind. Good or bad, they all helped you write the story of your life and shaped the person you are today. Everybody have a story to tell if it is a good or bad experience in their life. Our experience is our own story and testimonies that we must share with others. Everybody have a book in them and we can be our own author in our life. We must tell our stories about our situations and how God have helped us to overcome the situations. By writing our own book we are sharing our stories to help empower others. We all need to empower each other. That what Jesus will do for us in our daily life. Joel Osteen had say in his TV broadcast that God has written every page of your life in His book (Psalm 139.16). God knows your future. He has already planned it out. The good news is your book ends in victory. This is already in God design. God have a design for each of his children. Another one of Glenn Langohr’s stunning memoirs–a brave, unflinching account of life in prison

Ever wonder what a prison riot is like? B.J, a white inmate, serving time on drug charges, gets caught up in a Mexican gang war. The northern California Mexicans demand that the southern California Mexicans keep their shirts on to cover up their gangland tattoos. The prison explodes into chaos as each building erupts in deadly violence. For B.J, the war isn’t over when he and over a hundred inmates get housed in solitary confinement, it’s just beginning. For getting involved, he’s labeled a southern Mexican gangster.
Glenn Langohr’s other books include: Roll Call Book, Upon Release From Prison, Race Riot, Lock Up Diaries, Gladiator & Underdog

Author Glenn Langohrabout his book: Lock Up Abroad contacted me to be on their show this year as they focus on Prison Life in the U.S. They want me to be in one of the final episodes to end with a redemptive theme. While being interviewed they asked me, “How much of your books are fiction?” I told them, “Society can’t handle all of the truth!” With this in mind, I wrote Prison Riot.

Prison Riot is a true crime memoir where BJ, a young and battle tested inmate serving time on drug charges, gets caught up in a Mexican gang war over gangland tattoos. The prison explodes into chaos as each building erupts in deadly violence. For BJ, the war isn’t over when he and over a hundred inmates get housed in solitary confinement, it’s just beginning. For getting involved, he’s labeled a southern Mexican gangster.

• “Wow! I read this book in one sitting, I couldn’t put it down. The way Mr. Langhor writes this book, made me feel like I was in that cell woth B.J. and Giant, I actually felt claustrophobic and trapped and could almost feel the pepper spray burning me.” — MSMAD 2009

• “I am reading all of this authors books and this one is incredible. I can’t even imagine having to survive through what this guy has lived through. Prison war riot, Solitary confinement, respect, pride, survival. Forget reality TV, this is much better, it is reality!” — JDOG

Which God Should I Choose?

THE CHOICE IS YOURS TO MAKE.

The world we live in today offers a wide variety of gods to choose from. These gods range all the way from the god of the moon to the God who created the moon and every imaginable kind of god in between.

            When it comes down to it, not many people question the existence of some kind of Supreme Being or Higher Authority. Even an atheist prays when the airplane they are on is about to crash. Nature (the heavens and the earth) and even life itself proves that there has to be a Master Designer involved in creation.

            The question then isn’t “Is there a God?” so much as “Which God should I choose?” With so many choices available though, how can we ever be sure we are choosing the right one?

            This book takes a closer look at some of the more prevalent and popular gods of today to see how they stack up against the qualities that a real God should possess. After all, shouldn’t the true God have distinguishable characteristics that would set Him apart from all the other false gods? Shouldn’t we be able to know for sure that He is the right God?

Which God Should I Choose? is a book designed for many situations. It answers the questions of those seeking true spiritual guidance by examining facts concerning the cults and religions of today. It also provides proven direction for finding the key that unlocks the door to true peace and happiness for their lives. Because of the extensive research and easy-to-understand summary of the facts contained on its pages, Which God Should I Choose? should also be considered as an information manual to assist those who share their faith with others. Finally, We are hoping you will consider Which God Should I Choose? the perfect gift for graduates, as well as family members and friends who need to have a better understanding of God because it offers the buyer an easy reach out solution to those they have been praying for. The author builds a relationship with the reader and proves with interesting and verifiable facts that the God of the Bible is the only right choice.

Being that I usually dive head-first into the genre of action adventure thrillers, I get to read some great stories with a lot of tough as nails heroes, thwarting  the villainous plans of their antagonists; saving the world one scene at a time. Plenty of heart pounding action? You bet! Lots of cliches? Love it!

However, is there room for a hero that is somewhat larger than life, but possessing a softer, more fragile character trait? A hero that knows the path they have been thrust upon has to be followed at any cost, but wishing it could have been someone else.

I have been seeing it more often and I believe it adds a fresh, new dimension to the action hero, whereas reading of their escapades, I know that he, or she is struggling emotionally with their goal. Feeling their pain and  oft times sharing their tears as they suffer personal loss along the way.

When I first started writing my action thriller, Zero Point, I hit the keyboard full steam with my protagonist, Josh Turner. An archaeologist who was your typical, larger than life tough guy with a penchant for adventure and intrigue. About a third of the way through, I became aware of the fact that I really didn't like him on a personal level. For me, that was not good at all. If I didn't like him, I knew he wouldn't stand a chance with a reader.

So I went back to his bio and thought of ideas to make him more of an ordinary person, inadvertently forced into an extraordinary situation. I gave him more emotion; a caring for people and less of the "lock-n-load" mind-set. I threw in a conflict with his father, his mentor, but also his source of rebellion. A personal demon that had  followed him since his childhood. And finally, a reluctant and somewhat clumsy suitor for that special lady. When I did the re-write, I finally could truly say, "Yeah..I like the guy now." I could relate to him more on a personal level.

Can our heroes be tough, vanquish the bad guy, and win the day? Sure they can, but can they also shed a tear along the way? Why not?

Author Glenn Langohrabout his book: I wrote Race Riot to show the world that by sending people to prison for being addicted to drugs, we are breeding bigger criminals where gangs and violence are the calling cards. In prison a drug addict is bred into a displaced human being once released. While in prison, it gets politically racial and everything is solved with violence and gangs are bred. Race Riots over things like drug debts, alcohol, disrespect and any trivial reason are regular things. In Race Riots, BJ, a young convicted drug dealer struggles to survive a race war between the Black and White inmates.

• “A raw, breathless descent through the inner circle of the California Penal Hell. Fraught with detail that only someone who’s been there could know.” — TV Producer Phillip Doran

Infamous convicts like Gary Gilmore, Jack Henry Abbott, and Charles Manson would agree with the rough-and-ready story that is this book. Glenn Langohr’s “Race Riot” ranks right up there with the best in nonfiction prison literature available today.

Saving The Heart Of A Dragon

Assigned to rescue a vampire kidnapped by humans determined to exterminate them, a weredragon Enforcer falls in love. Will betrayal keep them apart?

Click to purchase SAFE HEART at Amazon.com

Can the pursuit of true love overcome the fear of society’s rejection and exile? Vampire Jaden Beayer thinks so. When she is kidnapped and tortured by humans, her government sends weredragon Enforcer Kiellen Henley to find her. After her recovery, Jaden convinces Kiellen to help her track down the humans responsible for her torture and exact revenge on them. The problem is, Jaden feels Kiellen is the missing ingredient for her complete recovery. Kiellen believes she has mistaken gratitude for attraction, and despite his overpowering need, he rejects her attempts at seduction.

As they face violence and betrayal from unexpected sources, Jaden’s quest for revenge becomes one for justice. Kiellen’s resistance evolves into acceptance and love. Jaden wants forever with Kiellen, but he’s realistic. They simply can’t be together because they are enemies. Weredragons and vampires have always been at war, and a relationship between Kiellen and Jaden could even endanger the fragile centuries-long truce.

When Jaden is finally safe and Kiellen’s name has been cleared, Kiellen says goodbye, leaving Jaden devastated and himself dangerously heart broken. Will Jaden ever be able to help Kiellen overcome his fears of prejudice and exile, and fulfill their love, making her his forever? Or will their love spark open warfare and send them both to the death penalty?

The Background:

Today's weredragons are the modern descendants of an alien species that arrived on Earth during the infancy of humankind. These highly intelligent reptiles, with their technological advances, considered themselves THE Apex predator. Humans weren't their preferred prey, being considered unpalatable and too much trouble for too little reward, even if they were the most intelligent, adaptable prey on the planet.

When dragons discovered vampires preying on humans, they couldn't allow the challenge to their superiority go unmet. A long and bloody war erupted between the two predator species, but the war only served to keep both populations under control.

Dragons adapted their chameleon-like ability to take the shapes of other life forms and learned to shape shift into human bodies. The skill allowed dragons to live secretly among humans like the vampires did, but didn't give them a real advantage in the war.

As human populations increased and became organized, they started to hunt dragons and vampires. Most dragons lived the majority of their lives in human form and eventually lost the ability to take on other forms. Around the same time, they began calling themselves 'weredragons' in an attempt to alleviate the brutal, predatory image humans held of them.

Today, vampires and weredragons are still enemies, but a long-term truce is in effect, enforced by the Inter Racial Council. Both continue to live secretly among humans, and only rarely cross paths.

* Warning: Adult language and sexual situation*

Kiellen waited until she turned away, then closed the door softly and turned the locks. Jaden’s heart caught in her throat as he turned toward her and leaned his shoulders against the doors. The low lighting set off his rugged handsomeness. His sensual lips tipped into a small smile and now-familiar heat pooled in her belly.

“You were jealous.” His eyes glinted as he started unbuttoning his shirt.

Jaden’s throat went dry as the firm skin of his chest came into view slowly, tantalizingly. “I was.” Then his shirt was open all the way, exposing hard pecs and abs. The little line of hair below his navel disappeared into the waistband of his pants. She swallowed hard. “I don’t share.” The words were out before she could stop them, revealing a possessiveness she hadn’t been aware of before. Something had changed.

He slipped the shirt off his shoulders and let it drop to the floor. “Why won’t you share me?” His voice was gravelly, thicker than usual.

Her heart pounded. She licked her lips. Stared at his chest. “You’re mine.” Her voice stayed so low she could barely hear it, the words involuntary, dragged from her being by some unseen force.

He moved and her eyes flicked back up to meet his. He crossed the room in three long steps and stopped before her. He just stood there, looking at her, his breath harsh. He raised his hands slowly and grasped her shoulders with a crushing grip.

Jaden stared at his mouth, his lips parted temptingly. Her body ached to be crushed to his. She strained toward him.

“Do you mean that?” His voice was a low growl, raising gooseflesh on her skin.

She couldn’t tell if he wanted her to mean it or not, or even if she did mean it. Thoughts raced frantically through her mind as she tried to decide how to answer. Then that moment in the car where he’d told her she was someone special came back to her.

“Yes.” Her heart lodged in her throat for a different reason. What if he didn’t want to be hers? She licked her lips again, staring at him, trying to read him.

His mouth softened and his grip on her shoulders eased. Gently, he drew her closer as he lowered his head. “Mine,” he breathed when his lips met hers. Jaden melted into him as his mouth played across hers, teasing. He buried his hand in her hair and tilted her head just so to give him better access to her mouth. His tongue teased at her lips, seeking entrance.

Jaden felt him smile against her mouth as she parted her lips. She had her answer. He wanted to be hers, at least for a time. His other hand smoothed down her back, over her butt, guiding her even closer to him. The closer contact brought the ridge of his erection against her. She moved slightly, rubbing against it.

He growled into her mouth, then pulled her shirt free of her waistband. She dropped her hands to his, stilling them from working at her buttons. “This is a good shirt. I don’t want it torn, and the buttons are decorative.” She didn’t give a damn about the shirt. What she wanted was to tease him a little.

He drew back, watching as she lifted the hem with shaking hands. When the shirt slid to the floor he drew his breath in a rush. Meeting his eyes, she reached behind her back and unhooked her bra and let it fall. It wasn’t like he’d never seen her naked, never made love to her, never licked every inch of her skin. That didn’t stop her from trembling from nervous anticipation. Everything felt new and special, like a momentous occasion.

Kiellen reached for her, settling his hands on her waist. His fingers burned against her skin. His hands weren’t perfectly steady as he unbuttoned her pants and shoved them down over her hips. He stepped back to look at her, his gaze devouring her body.

Jaden grasped his belt and pulled him closer. Her hands still trembled as she looked up, meeting his gaze, and unbuckled the belt, then unbuttoned and unzipped his pants. Dragging a breath in, she pushed pants and underwear down. She stepped forward the six inches necessary to bring her into the slightest contact with his body. Her breasts swelled at the sensation of his hot skin brushing them.

Another breath and his arms crushed her to him. The volcanic intensity of his arousal scorched her belly. Jaden let her arms creep upward and around his shoulders. His scent, always more intense and tantalizing with arousal, was different, in some unexplainable way. Jaden was absolutely certain that new quality was addictive, that having taken it into her lungs, she would be unable to live without it.

Kiellen bent and scooped her into his arms. He took a step and promptly tumbled over with her. They crashed to the floor in a crumpled heap.

Kiellen straightened himself and began running his hands over her, searching for injuries. “Are you okay?”

Jaden fought to control her breathing and found it impossible. Tears streamed from her eyes as she struggled to keep from laughing aloud.

“Damn it! Where are you hurt, baby?” Desperation tinged his voice.

She gave in and shrieked with laughter. “I can’t believe you dropped me!”

Relief settled over Kiellen’s features and he collapsed beside her. His shoulders shook with laughter. “I forgot I still had my boots on. Got tangled in my jeans.” He pulled the offending boots and jeans off and discarded them to the side.

As she watched him relax and laugh at himself, Jaden’s own laughter subsided. Seeing him comfortable and at ease with the world cranked her desire for him up another notch.

He caught her staring and abruptly stopped laughing. He rose onto his knees and leaned toward her, bearing her gently to the floor. His mouth descended on hers, powerful, devouring, consuming. He stretched out atop her and she shifted so that her body cradled his.

Great Day In the Morning

Great Day In the Morning - some days are just too wonderful.

attmp-med.jpg?w=150&width=150Checked mail this morning and there was a letter from All Things That Matter Press telling me they were starting editing on Of Chiefs and Giants. That is the second part of the A River That Is Congo duet. The two books take place in the same time frame. Actually Of Chiefs and Giants starts in 1879 and Of Rulers and Ruled starts in 1902. They both end in 1965 when the Congo gained independence. Like I said, some days are just too wonderful.

Of Rulers and Ruled takes place along the Congo River and describes the greed and cruelty of an exploitive colonial government.

Of Chiefs and Giants takes place in the Northeast corner of the Congo, about as far from the seat of government and commerce as you could get and chronicles the lives of a powerful chief’s two sons who were born on the same day but of different mothers. One son steals the chiefdom from the rightful ruler who then goes to the newly arrived missionaries thinking he can get them with their guns to help him take back what is rightfully his.

Here is the first few paragraphs from Of Chiefs and Giants.

OF CHIEFS AND GIANTS
By Paul J. Stam

1879
CHAPTER ONE

Ronzozo, first son of Chief Kimulu and chief-to-be, stood in the center of the front rank of warriors along the crest of the hill. The rising sun cast diagonal shadows to the slopes across the valley. Directly behind them, hidden in the ravine were five hundred more warriors. An equal number of warriors were hidden behind the hill at the other end of the ravine.

The first rank of the enemy crested the hill on the other side of the valley and the warriors started beating their shields in unison and shouting, Kufu. Kufu. Kufu. Kufu. Ronzozo watched with anxious uneasiness as rank upon rank came over the crest of the hill opposite, each rank joining the others, beating on their shields and shouting their threat. Their ranks, crowding in on each other, swelling until there were more than four times as many warriors on the opposite hill as there were on his side. He breathed a sigh of relief and smiled with secret confidence. Just as his father had predicted, Dumodo’s warriors would fight the old way, not holding anything in reserve. They were not practicing any cunning.

For half an hour the opposing forces stood at the tops of their respective hills chanting their threat of; Kill, Kill, Kill, Kill. Ronzozo stood shouting with the rest of them, looking back and forth from the enemy across from him and to his father standing up in his tepoi to his right. He felt safe now, the bodies of the warriors on each side of him touching his body. He could smell the oil they had rubbed on themselves and the smell of the enveloping palm oil gave him a feeling of safety in their closeness. If a spear were to come flying toward them it would hit someone else, but everyone was thinking the same thing.

Their common sense told them if a spear was coming right for them there would be no way to dodge it if they stayed pressed close together. Over and over again his father explained it to him, to the chiefs and to the warriors and yet he knew the impulse would be to stay bunched together. It was just this impulse on the part of the enemy that would be their defeat.

He saw his father raise his right hand, the Gangilo held above his head. His father point with his left hand toward the other side and the right arm came down. Ronzozo raised his spear over his head, gave a shout and they started running down the hill. Their movement was like a trigger releasing the enemy and the two opposing forces rushed toward each other toward the valley below.

Ronzozo and all his forces were halfway down the hill when he saw the reserves running up the other side to get in position to come against Dumodo's warriors on the flank and from behind. The reserves ran with stealth and bent low, with no shouting that would let the enemy know they were there. Halfway down the hill Ronzozo and those with him stopped. Those in the ranks behind turned when he stopped and started running back up the hill while those in the front rank spread out. Dumodo's warriors interpreted their action first as fear, and then as retreat, and some of them started running ahead wanting to be the first to have a kill.

This battle takes place 13 years before Ronzozo’s two sons are born.

Books Are So Decorative!

Gloria Upson: Oh, my, what a stunning apartment.
Auntie Mame: Thank you.
Gloria Upson: Books are awfully decorative, don’t you think?

That was an exchange in the movie Auntie Mame between the dull snotty upper crust girl, Gloria Upson, and Auntie Mame concerning the collection of books in Mame’s apartment. It’s funny because it shows here lack of understanding about books.– if Gloria ever read one.

But now, big time publishers are serious about Gloria’s definition of books.

Are books decorations? Chapters Indigo asks that question.

The message of Random House’s latest lifesaver for the book industry is “Books are beautiful”: a sideways foray into interior design that gives readers classics in solid Pantone covers.There’s Margaret Atwood in purple, Michael Ondaatje in blue and Wayson Choy in orange. Thirty in all, the books are re-releases of old editions that retail at a slight premium above the more traditionally designed copies, available exclusively through Indigo Books and Music, which also owns Chapters.

The books are aimed at catching the eye of design-savvy customers, according to Indigo’s vice-president of trade books, but are raising the eyebrows of interior and graphic designers alike.

It seems that the yuppie is not dead.

 “(These are targeted to) booklovers seeking unique editions, young design-conscious customers who are looking to start their library,” said Indigo’s Bahram Olfati in an email.

Atwood’s Alias Grace has a sticker price of $16.95 in purple but just $11.99 in the original paperback format, though Indigo stores currently have a deal — two for $25 — that brings the prices closer together if you’re looking to stock your shelves with the minimalist paperbacks.

Books as pieces of art?

 For Culver, who works at Kobo and consumes most of her books digitally, print books are pieces of art.

 “I only buy physical books for the object, not so much for the actual book. I’m less inclined to buy a new release than to read it in digital format,” she said. “There are books that I’ve read in digital and then bought in print because I like the cover.”

Gloria Upson lives!

 One Toronto interior decorator had a client who had just moved to Canada and needed books in a room.

 “In this case we had come across these vintage Penguin paperbacks and they always colour-code their books,” said Theresa Casey, owner of Casey Design, noting that she personally prefers an easier-to-navigate arrangement like alphabetical or by subject but, for some clients, colour-coding may work.

“With books and clients, I think it’s a great way to reflect your interests and who you are,” said Casey. “It really brings a lot of personality to the space, whether you’re colour-coding them because of the collection or because you like the way it looks.”

And I thought enhanced ebooks and Print-On-Demand in bookstores were the next big thing in books.
