Flying Stories II

10916210452?profile=original"Flying Stories II" Subtitled: How I Came to Be a Pilot and Engineer and What Happened After That (Non-Fiction) What was it like to be a part of the generation born in the 1930s was too late to fly dirigibles or be barnstormers. They were too young to fly the B-17s and P-51s or design the new post war aircraft like the P-80 jet and Bell X-1 rocket, but they picked up where the aviation pioneers left off and established the United States as the unchallenged world leader in the aviation industry.  Flying Stories, the author's second book, is about one of those kids, too young to go to the last big war, but who grew up in the midst of it. One of the faceless thousands of young engineers who helped make air travel safer than riding a bus. These are stories about the golden age of civil aviation and the forgotten aircraft engineers and pilots of the 1960s and 70s. This all new revised expanded 2012 soft cover 382 page or eBook First Edition supersedes the First thru Third Editions of Flying Stories first printed in 2003 and includes many new B&W photos of the era.

Glenn Langohr: The Path Into Solitary Confinement in Prison is Wide and the Path Out is Narrow

Glenn Langohr: The Path Into Solitary Confinement in Prison is Wide and the Path Out is Narrow. Glenn Langohr spent over 10 years in some of California’s worst prisons on drug charges, with 4 years in solitary before turning it into research as a writer and expert on prison culture. For a complete list of his drug war and prison thrillers in audio go here- http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=glenn+langohr%27s+audio+books You can also download the books to your phone, tablet or computer in minutes for free and buy them in print as well here- http://www.amazon.com/-/e/B00571NY5A Image

The path into solitary confinement is wide for this reason. We have to many laws and send to many people to prison these days. It used to be, in the 1980′s, that you only went to prison for murder, rape and robbery for the most part. Tough on crime political platforms and the drug war took over and now we are paying the price with a prison population that is exploding at the seams. Image

Image

To expand further, now that we send people to prison for poverty crimes like stealing to survive “Petty theft”, and not being able to pay for probationary costs, and for being addicted to drugs, we have an overburdened prison system that frankly, has a lot of mental issues. Imagine being in prison as a drug addict or an orphan of poverty, on a packed prison yard, where the inmates are comprised of every race, color and creed. Now mix in hundreds of different street gangs and some predators. But please don’t forget to add in a percentage of outright mental cases. Add all of that up and you have a recipe for violence, the slippery slope into solitary. This is where you have to look deeper. As an inmate trying to fit in, and avoid that violence in a predatory environment, one of the easiest masks to put on is in the form of tattoos. Human beings often enter the prison system as innocent, young drug addicts, and out of fear, try to fit in by blasting their bodies with ink to look formidable. This is the main reason that the path out of solitary is narrow. Since the path into solitary confinement and the path out aren’t regulated by a court of law, dubious evidence is used that has to do with certain tattoos meaning certain things. Other dubious evidence is second hand information from other prisoners, and the one that hurts my heart the most, self admission. ImageImage

What most people don’t understand is that as a new arrival to a prison, the prison administration has to run a check to clear the inmate for mainline population on the “Big Yard”. During this process the inmate is under the microscope like an insect under a magnifying glass. He or she is asked questions like, ‘What gang do you run with? What do they call you? Do you have any enemies?’ These questions make a new inmate feel like joining a gang is the answer! A great percentage of lost misfits pass the tipping point and claim something. In my case being a White inmate they asked, ‘Are you a peckerwood or skin head?’ I saw the verbal bait on a hook and responded, can’t I just be a White man without any affiliation? For those who take the bait and claim where they’re from in the form of initials to their county like S.J.C, for San Juan Capistrano, just gave someone’s pen the power to keep them self in solitary forever. Image

Books You Should Read

I've written as a freelancer, and have completed a bunch of novels, and have also taught college full time and then for a prison program that was summarily closed by a Republican governor. One of my Smashwords novels, From Renata With Love, makes use of what I learned then from one of my inmate students.

I've published two novels on Kindle: Attila as Told to His Scribes, and I, Zerco, both set in the 5th century in or near the Roman Empire. The first is a first-person fictional autobiography of Attila the Hun, telling of his life from the incident which sent him as hostage to the Roman capital (Ravenna) as a young man, through his triumphs, to his death, narrated by his last scribe.

I, Zerco tells his own story. A contemporary of Attila, a Moor who ended up in Attila's court, according to a Roman eyewitness account, his story begins in the North African mountains. He is always a lover, but he's enslaved by Romans and subsequently has three harrowing, but ultimately triumphant careers: as bestiarius, stupidus (jester) and double agent to Attila's predecessor, and finally as a magician. He is the ultimate survivor.

Writing for baby boomers

Many people raise an eyebrow when I tell them my recently released novel is a baby boomer novel. I can almost read their skepticism about the content as they imagine a novel about a get off my lawn kind of person. Goodbye Emily is a boomer novel. It's also funny and irreverent. It follows three baby boomers who relive their trip to Woodstock in 1969. One final roadtrip. One last chance to say Goodbye Emily.

Why did I write a novel that focused on three men age 60? What better group to create a character from. Boomers are talented, funny, shaped with experience, and in my case, influenced by the cold war, Camelot and Vietnam.

There's also a practical reason for writing for and about baby boomers. Boomers are the largest group of book buyers in the country. Will this change with the growth of Kindle and other devices? Hardly. Boomers are the largest group of ereader users.

Next time you consider a baby boomer novel, don't assume it will be about someone adjusting to retirement. Boomer novels are often witty, suspenseful and brilliantly crafted coming of (old) age stories. Just like all genres. So check them out.

I want the reader to have some understanding of my purpose and goals for this I Ching blog. I first became obsessed with I Ching in 1970. This interest coincided with the feminist movement where I was frequently asked, “Why are you interested in that sexist book that talks about the superior man all the time?” I Ching developed as the Chinese language developed over three thousands years ago so that question was not something I could respond to in a sound bite.

While there are many interpretations of I Ching, they are from the perspective of the traditional Eastern masculine view. So partly in response to those early days of that repeated question, and partly because I love to write and make pictures, I decided that I needed to create my own version of what I Ching means to me. I Ching Meditations is expressed in imagery and words.

Who Am I?

I was born in southwestern Pennsylvania, the second daughter of Rachel Yost and Arthur Curtis McGee. I grew up loving to read and write poetry, as well as short stories. “People who do not achieve their dreams, they often give many reasons why. People who achieve their dreams, they are always the reasons why. The Choice is Simple: Give Up or To Become”

There are so many people in the Black Community will give you so many excuses of why they didn’t follow their dreams. They will blame the white man for not following their dreams. They will let obstacles get in their way. They will let so called friends to make their decisions for them. Some will talk about their dreams but they won’t put it into action. Some even will let their past hold them back. As we are in our last week of Black History Month lets just remember that we have a lot to be thankful. Look how far we as the people had come from. We need to stop blaming other people for not following our dreams. Today in 2013 there are so many opportunities especially in the Black Community. We even have a Black President that is serving his second term right now. President Obama didn’t let anyone or any obstacles from preventing him to run as President. We can’t keep on blaming the white man for not going after our dreams. The blame lied on us. It is our own choice that we aren’t pursuing our dreams. There are people that will tried to interrupt those who are following their dreams. When I had decided to write my first book “Walking In God’s Path Toward Your Destination Volume 1″ To Change Your Mindsetthat there were some wasn’t happy about that at all. They had tried to interrupt me in writing my book by saying that being an author is not consider a job. I had told them that being an author is a full time job rather I want it to be or not. Everyday that I market my books to create sales is consider me working. I am receiving income from my books. Some in the black community had the nerve to tell me to apply for welfare and food stamps instead of congratulating me in my accomplishment. I had ignored all of their attempt and kept on writing. Today I have three published books in the market online. People will tried to interrupt you from achieving your dreams because they didn’t have the courage to follow their own dreams. They really don’t have an issues with you but themselves. They are telling their own story that they didn’t take the necessary steps in making their dream become to reality. Lets keep in mind for Black History Month and beyond that if you don’t have the guts to achieve your dreams then you don’t have anyone or anything to blame but yourself. If you take the necessary risks to achieve your dreams then you will have many reasons to be proud of all of your accomplishments. One of the reasons that you should be proud that you know that you are the Child of the King and you are willing to make a choice to take a chance of achieving your dreams. You have a choice that you need to make. The Choice is just simple: Either You Want To Give Up or To Become Successful by Achieving your Dreams. It’s Up To You!

Let me introduce myself.

I am an author, public speaker, and blogger. My book, Women of the Way: Embracing the Camino is about my journey on the Camino Francés, a 500-mile pilgrimage across northern Spain. As I walked, I talked with other female pilgrims (hikers). The story is about my adventures and the conversations I had with these incredible women.

I speak on the Camino and on indie authoring.I currently have two one-hour Camino presentations: The Beauty of the Camino and The Camino in 43 days.

My blog provides strategies and support for the indie author. Each week I introduce a new Camino Tip on Pinterest.

Shortly, I will return to Spain to do two Caminos. One is by bicycle, from Barcelona to Santiago; the other is by foot, from Lisbon Portugal to Santiago.

Reviews

“I was delighted with this walk through the smooth blue veins and pulsing red arteries of Laura LME’s poetry in her new digital poetry photo book, Verses in Motion. As the evocative cover photo promises with its billowing scarlet drapes, here she will lead you to the windows and doors to to be opened along the corridors of your own heart. Poetry at its finest finds our hidden inner places, opens the locks we have installed so carefully, and removes the bars. Laura LME’s new collaboration with the deeply symbolic images of Anna Simi beautifully and gently transport the reader here, not away, but inward.”

- J.J. Brown – Author, Novelist, Poet, Scientist -

“The tapestries, visuals and emotions that Laura LME captures in this collection are timeless. A must read for any lover of words!”

- Andrew Scott, Author of “Snake With A Flower” Poetry Collection -

“ Laura’s words are diaphanous, more lyrical than metaphorical, as if they were the narration behind a dream. It is this musical and cinematic quality – accentuated by Anna Simi’s urban and natural landscapes – that underlies the ability of her verses to move the reader. The poetry here belongs to no symbolic or imagist school, there are no didactic allusions or misguided pedantry – only pure expressionism, heartfelt and true.”

- Samuel Peralta – Author, Physicist, Poet -

“This is such a wonderful concept for a poetry book, I believe that it will reach out and grab the imagination of all ages, especially the younger generations. Beginning with the breathtaking cover, where the verses inside seem to be calling out for you to enter. The vibrant imagery compliments the words perfectly, everything about it is exciting and fresh.
Laura’s poems for me, melt off the pages and rest in the heart”

- Ruth Johnston – Author, Poet -

Wonder Why

Pick yourself up

reach for the stars

treat your scars

by reaching for the stars.

Look at the clouds in the sky.

Think on other things

like homelessness and hunger.

Think on things that make you wonder.

Put your mind asunder.

Pick yourself up

reach for the stars

treat your scars

by reaching for the stars.

Wipe the tears from your eyes.

Look at the clouds in the sky

and wonder why

there are people who need clean water to drink.

They don't even have a sink.

Their clothes are worn and tattered.

Their family is scattered

searching for a way to make life better.

Pick yourself up

reach for the stars

treat your scars

by reaching for the stars.

Wipe the tears from their eyes

by treating their thirst and hunger.

Look at the clouds in the sky

and wonder why

you don't hear their cry.

My writings are real life experiences that I have sort of turned into short stories in the form of Inspirational and Motivational Quotations. But more importantly I write from my own emotions both past and present.

I write from the pain that I have seen that has been inflicted on others as well as the pain some have inflicted on me. I write from memories of people who have touched my life. Some who have stayed and some who decided and chosen to move on in their lives.

I write from happiness. The happiness that many have brought me by showing me unconditional love, friendship and those who were there whenever I needed them in times that may have not been the best of times.

I write from love. The love I feel from the readers who gain even one ounce of inspiration, motivation and just the joy it may bring them for one second if they need to smile. I write because it energizes and recharges me.

I write because it allows me to be expressive and even if to my own self, it helps me to lift my spirits if ever they seem to be slipping. I'RM%2376%20WHY%20I%20WRITE.jpgm not in fear of whether or not anyone will see or feel the writings the way I see and feel them, but if one person smiles, or even one person gains from it, then I also write for you.
